006 - Olgar's Stand

Timberhome is a nice location, at the edge of the wilds in many ways, but Olgar’s Stand is what most people would consider stability. Indeed, a fine opportunity to have a full stomach for the first time in days, not to mention less-improvised tools for fire and shelter. The town’s wares are clearly feeling the effects of high taxes, but this may be a good place to stop and look for combatants, inspiration for her martial style.

In speaking with the local soldiers, some are intrigued at the prospects of her goals: a distinct, powerful hand-to-hand style would be a powerful surprise in case of disarmament. One soldier, however, going by Olafur, mocks her: She is no more capable of such a thing than she is lifting a mountain. Olafur knows what true power is, and she does not have it.

Mid-Story Commentary

Well, Solana's basic premise is laid out here, and it's a very silly one for anyone who thinks about it for more than a few seconds. Bare-handed fisticuffs is dramatic and all, but in a setting like the Ironlands, seriously, just grab a spear or something and you'll be ten thousand times better off. In fact, punching is probably the worst way to do ANYTHING, because not only are you at the closest range possible, but you're smashing your own hand against the other guy trying to win.

But just forget all that for a bit and pretend a pure punch art is both possible and really really cool.

I don't think I rolled any moves at all in this session, actually. I may have written this out, then immediately went to the next "chapter" to start rolling and playing.

The Ironlands in my setting is apparently far enough into development of society to have taxes.
